Digital Art Platform MakersPlace Raises $30M

Recently, Digital art platform - MakersPlace announced that it has raised $30M to further its mission of enabling a vibrant future for digital creativity.
 
This series A funding round was led by Pantera Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners with participation from Uncork Capital, 9Yards Capital, Draper Dragon Digital Assets, Coinbase Ventures and Sony Music Entertainment.

MakersPlace said that in 2021 the number of collectors using its platform have grown over 10 times, while the firm facilitated more than $100M in transactions. "We’ve also continued to empower thousands of the world’s most talented digital artists, offering the most trusted platform to protect and sell their digital art. Most notably, we helped catapult digital art and NFTs onto the global stage,"
 
In feb, MakersPlace's partnership with Beeple and Christie’s, facilitated the $69.3 million sale of Beeple’s "EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS"  the largest ever sale of a digital artwork.
 
The funding round also included strategic investors Acquavella Galleries, Sabrina Hahn and Bill Ruprecht in the arts; Paul Rosenberg, Eminem, 3LAU in music, Larry Fitzgerald and Shari Glazer in sports; Julia and Kevin Hartz, Eric Baker, Vinny Lingham and Tobias Lütke in tech, and more. According to MakersPlace every investor brings forward a strong conviction for platform's mission along side their expertise and perspective across technology, blockchain, art and media.
 
A non-fungible token NFT is a unit of data stored on a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and hence not interchangeable. Non-fungible token can be used to represent items like photos, videos, audio, and other types of digital files.
